New legal advice causes local fury as local Eurosceptic MP fails to act on EU threat to local NHS services.
Furious local residents from Haltemprice & Howden are calling for action from their local MP David Davis after expert legal advice seen by Save Our NHS Hull shows that an EU trade deal called TTIP poses a real and serious threat to Britain’s sovereignty over the NHS.
Local residents are up in arms because their supposed Eurosceptic MP has not taken firm action to oppose the deal despite being asked to by constituents on a number of occasions. Instead, their concerns were dismissed by David Davis despite protests, petitions and letters sent to him.
Now Save Our NHS Hull has seen new and explosive legal advice from one of the UK’s top lawyers showing a ‘real and serious risk’ to future governments wishing to take the NHS back into public hands. TTIP also gives investors new legal rights to sue the UK government on other NHS matters going beyond current laws. The advice strongly recommends the government excludes the NHS from TTIP.
The ‘Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership’trade deal is being negotiated behind closed doors, between EU bureaucrats and delegates from the United States. It is the largest bilateral trade deal ever negotiated and threatens to make the on-going privatisation of the NHS irreversible. TTIP could grant American multinationals, or any firm with American investors, the power to sue the government if it ever attempted to take privatised health services back into public ownership.
Residents want their local MP to demand to see the government’s legal advice which is being withheld from the public. David Davis MP should call for its release and demand David Cameron takes the NHS out of TTIP.
Dermot Rathbone, local resident and spokesperson said: “Alarming legal advice shows that Britain’s sovereignty over the NHS are being sold down the river by faceless EU bureaucrats to Wall Street. Our supposed Eurosceptic MP is doing nothing to defend our local health services from this attack. David Davis’ failures to act actually makes it look as if he wants the NHS to be irreversibly sold-off.
“Local residents have signed petitions, sent letters, attended protests and attempted to attend local surgeries to ask for help, but their genuine concerns have been ignored by David Davis. They have a right to be furious over their MPs failure. It is now time for action. Our NHS is at risk of an irreversible sell-off. David Davis must now protest to David Cameron in the strongest terms because the people of Haltemprice & Howden do not believe it is right for our NHS to be put at risk of irreversible privatisation.
“If David Davis is serious about his concerns about the EU then he should demand that David Cameron acts and protects the NHS from the EU trade deal called TTIP”
